[UNIT 2] POSITION OF TRIANUGLATING – 1
STEP 1 ::
Start Point
Sound visualisation itself is already systematised a bit, a form of universal language also already was standardised. so It was suggested that my work will be focused on the sound itself, this is because sounds itself also can be a symbol, and I established a starting position from which to develop.
To experiment with what the sound itself was representing, I started by simply collecting sounds from my surroundings, as in feedback, to see what it was telling me. (Using the Method of investigating method.)
alarms, mobile phones, typing sounds…
And rather than thinking about how to translate or visualise them, I decided a way to engage with the everyday sounds.
Here are the bunch of the sounds I found, and I tried to create a everyday life using only sounds.
Sound is more revealing than we might think. Ear information lets us see what’s going on faster with some sense than visual information. We can feel the world through sound. We can imagine the story even in a black and white image. I found that this video showed us the power of sound to tell a story, even when the image is just the image.
STEP 2 ::
Categorize the sounds I’ve collected ->
Let’s categorize with place / the subject of making a sound / the type of the sound
Place – Bedroom / Toilet / In front of the door / Underground / Cafe / Office / Cafeteria (or Canteen) / Livingroom
Bedroom : Morning Alarm / Bed Sheet Rustling
Bathroom : Using Toilet / Showering Running / Squeezing toothpaste / Brushing Teeth

NARRATIVE : A DAY IN SOUND
Morning – Bedroom
The alarm rings twice—just enough to pull me from sleep. I turn it off quickly and rise from bed. The rustle of the sheets feels like a soft transition from rest to reality.
l
Routine – Bathroom
I head straight to the bathroom. The sequence is familiar: using the toilet, followed by the sound of the shower’s steady stream, and finally the brushing of my teeth.
The routine feels automatic, a quiet preparation for the day ahead.
l
Transition – In Front of the Door
Locking the door behind me, the keys jingle softly in my hand.
DJ Mustard’s track kicks in, filling the air with energy as I step out into the world, ready to move.
l
Commute – London Underground
The London Underground has its own rhythm—the train screeches to a halt, and the rumble of the ride hums beneath my feet. The sounds of the city surround me, constant, steady.
l
Café – Morning Stop
The beep of the POS system signals my purchase. The espresso machine hisses, and the smell of coffee fills the air. It’s a brief but familiar moment of warmth before the rush of the day.
l
Work – Office (Morning)
I sit at my desk, the laptop’s hum blending with the soft clatter of keys as I type. The simplicity of the sounds helps me focus, settling me into the flow of work.
l
Lunch Break – Café
The register beeps again, marking another small pause in the day. Toast pops, and the smooth sound of butter spreading feels almost indulgent, a quiet moment just for me.
l
Work – Office (Afternoon)
Back at my desk, the day picks up again. The scratching of a pencil as it moves across the paper, the steady rhythm of typing, and the satisfying sound of flipping the laptop shut as the workday winds down. A mix of productivity and anticipation fills the air.
l
Evening – Living Room
At home, the sound of a delivery bag being opened signals dinner has arrived.
The crinkle of the paper bag, the rustle of the burger’s packaging, and the soft pop of a beer bottle opening bring a sense of comfort and indulgence. Netflix loads, and the evening is mine.
l
Night – Bedroom
I slip into bed, the familiar comfort of the sheets rustling as I settle in.
With a soft click, the iPhone turns off, and the day ends in quiet peace.
