[UNIT 3] CONCENTRATION IN STUDIO WORK WEEK 5

This week, I tried to bring all my ideas together in the Written Work.
I also thought about how to show them clearly and how to make them real in the physical world.

Written Work – 1st Draft

This article is organised into three sections: Abstract, Context, and Projected Contribution, which follows introduction of document.

First, the Abstract clearly states the research question, reveals that this question stems from a personal experience, and succinctly describes how that experience led to the questioning of the sensory limitations of digital communication. This section essentially summarizes the project’s goals, methods, and the system we propose.

Next, Context is the central and most lengthy part.

The first is a personal starting point, covering the experience of sensory deprivation from being separated from family and lovers.

Second is the critical theory background. Here, the theories of Verbeek, McLuhan, and Byung-Cheol Han are used to explain how technology structures emotions and desensitizes the senses.

Third, as a methodological choice, we analyze the meaning of the form of the love letter and present the practice of translating text into sensation, referencing John Keats’ sensory language and Sophie Calle’s work.

The fourth is a description of the project structure. We describe the structure we designed to create a dwelling structure for emotions by linking the web and a physical box, and to recirculate emotions through NFC invitations.

In the final Projected Contribution, I argue that graphic communication design can extend beyond mere visual language transmission to become an ethical tool for mediating emotions and sensations. It centers on a quote from Victor Papanek, who articulates a position on the social possibilities of design and the place of the designer.

Overall, the article follows the flow of question → experience → theory → case → design response → contribution, with academic citations and practical evidence placed at each step in an attempt to be both logical and emotionally compelling.

Need to print out few letters, so I consider the selected visual letter to put in the box. 단순히 편지 모으는 게 아니고 디지털의 인풋을 피지컬 세상으로 전달하는 것이기 때문에, 몇몇개의 선택된 편지들을 조심스럽게 인쇄하여 사용하려고 합니다. 이 편지는 하나의 초대장 기능을 하며, 감상하고 느끼는 것이기 때문에 더 많은 정보에 노출되게 할 필요가 없다고 생각했습니다. 이미 우리는 많은 디지털 기반의 편지들은 이미 웹사이트에서 만나볼 수 있습니다. 가장 많이 전달된 데이터부터 특이하다고 느낀 데이터까지 대략 10개에서 15개의 데이터를 선정하여 박스에 담으려고 합니다.
